Parent zone
Welcome to our Parent Zone — a dedicated space for families to stay connected, informed and involved in life at the Anglo-Portuguese School of London.
We believe that children thrive when school and home work together. Parents are our children's first and most important educators, and your knowledge, encouragement and involvement make a valuable contribution to their learning, wellbeing and development.
Our aim is to build a strong, open and welcoming partnership with every family.
Parents as Partners
We value the contribution that every parent and carer brings to our school community.
You know your child better than anyone. Sharing their interests, strengths, experiences and any concerns with us helps our teachers understand each child as an individual and provide the right support and opportunities for them to flourish.
We want communication between home and school to be positive, respectful and two-way. We encourage parents to ask questions, share ideas and celebrate their child's achievements with us.
How We Keep You Informed
The Parent Zone will bring together useful information, resources and key updates, including:
- School news and announcements
- Term dates and the school calendar
- Letters and important communications
- Parent meetings and consultation information
- Homework and home-learning guidance
- School meals and packed lunch information
- Wraparound care
- Clubs and activities
- Trips, events and celebrations
- Useful resources to support learning at home
Getting Involved
There are many ways to become part of our school community, and we understand that families have different amounts of time available. Every contribution, however small, is valued.
You might choose to:
Volunteer at School
Parents may be able to support school activities, educational visits, reading, special events or particular projects. If you have a skill, interest or professional experience that could enrich children's learning, we'd love to hear from you. Please contact the school office: info@angloportugueseschool.org
Share Your Culture and Experience
Our bilingual and bicultural community is one of our greatest strengths.
Parents can help children learn about different cultures, languages, traditions and experiences by sharing stories, music, food, celebrations, photographs, books or personal experiences. Speak to your child's class teacher or the school office.
Join the school parent community
We hope to develop an active and welcoming parent community where families can meet, build friendships and support one another.
Parent coffee mornings, social events, workshops and community activities can provide opportunities to connect with other families and become more involved in school life.
When your child starts at APSoL, you become a Friend of APSOL.
The Friends of APSoL (FoAPSoL) is the school’s parent-and-community volunteer organisation. It is a registered charity (No. 1206359) whose purpose is to support and enrich the educational experience of children at the Anglo-Portuguese School of London.
In practical terms, it is a little like a PTA, but extends past the school community.
What does Friends of APSoL do?
The organisation works closely with the school to:
- Raise funds to provide additional equipment, resources and opportunities for pupils.
- Organise events and activities, including fairs, bake sales and cultural celebrations.
- Bring families together and strengthen relationships between parents, children, staff and the wider community.
- Celebrate the school's multicultural community, including through bilingual and culturally diverse events.
- Support families, for example through second-hand uniform sales.
- Provide opportunities for parents, grandparents and other members of the communitu
