Welcome and bem vindos
In 2016, the Anglo-Portuguese School of London (APSoL) was approved by the Department for Education to enter the ‘pre-opening’ phase. APSoL has been spearheaded by Talent Education Trust and is supported by the Embassy of Portugal in the United Kingdom. It will be the first bilingual English-Portuguese primary free school in the UK.The school will be located in the London Borough of Wandsworth in London.
It is proposed to open with two Reception classes in September of 2020. APSoL will grow organically by adding two Reception classes each year to eventually accommodate 420 students between the ages of 4 to 11. The school proposes to operate a nodal admissions process, details of which are included later in this document. APSoL will give families a unique option amongst an already diverse ecosystem of primary schools across this area of London.
APSoL intends to offer students the best possible educational experience in the context of a unique bilingual school. The curriculum will be broad and balanced whilst seeking to establish a foundational understanding and appreciation for both the English and Portuguese languages. Our enrichment offer will bring students closer to Portuguese-speaking communities around the world through the exploration of international arts and culture.
The goal of our bilingual offer is to instil the understanding, experiences, personal attributes and curiosity to succeed in secondary education, and to cement foundational skills that will help them to succeed as global citizens later in life.We will welcome children of all languages, from all backgrounds, of all abilities and of all faiths and none.
The statutory consultation period opens a pathway for dialogue between the Trust and prospective parents/carers, and wider stakeholders. We are looking to use this opportunity to help shape the new school in order that it best meets the needs of the communities that it forms part of.Thank you for your interest in our school. Your views and feedback are very important to us.
