We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Principal Designate, Marta Correia, who will join the APSoL team in April 2020.
Marta has over five years of experience working in bilingual schools and is currently Headteacher at Judith Kerr Primary School in Southwark, another bilingual primary in the City. In her early career, Marta worked as an SLE (specialist leader of education) for the Lambeth Teaching School Alliance where she was able to support schools with various aspects of teaching and learning. In addition, Marta’s experience working in multi-cultural and diverse schools in London and Portugal supported her understanding of best practice in multi-language settings and how children acquire a new language.
She has a wealth of experience in both teaching and management, having worked at Wyvil Primary as English and Science Lead, Judith Kerr School as Assistant Headteacher and, most recently, as Headteacher since 2016. Under Marta’s leadership, the school has seen three consecutive years of high achievement across the board.
Marta was also instrumental in implementing the conversion of Judith Kerr from an adult learning institution to a primary school, liaising with funding agencies and architects to ensure that the work was completed efficiently whilst also maintaining a stable learning environment for the pupils. As such, she will bring invaluable experience to the remodeling and transformation of the school site as we prepare to open in a building in the west of South Thames College in Wandsworth in September 2020.
Marta’s specialised experience means that she is ready to deliver the bilingual model that we envision for APSoL by leading subject teachers as they divide the main subjects between English and Portuguese, immersing pupils in both languages and ensuring that all pupils make excellent academic progress in all subjects.
“I am tremendously excited to bring my experience in dual-language teaching to APSoL. At my current school, I manage two curricula for language learning that enable all learners to make good progress. I believe enquiry-based learning is vital when developing inquisitive minds – through thought-provoking questions that are going to enable children to think outside the box, deepen their understanding and become great problem solvers! I look forward to building an environment of mutual respect and high expectations at APSoL, giving every pupil the ideal opportunity to reach their potential.”
Temos o prazer de anunciar a nomeação da nossa nova diretora, Marta Correia, que vai juntar-se à equipa da APSoL em abril de 2020.
A Marta Correia tem mais de cinco anos de experiência a trabalhar em escolas bilingues e atualmente é a diretora da escola Judith Kerr, em Southwark, outra escola primária bilingue da cidade. No início da sua carreira foi Líder Especialista de Educação, na Lambeth Teaching School Alliance, no apoio a escolas em diversos aspetos do ensino e da aprendizagem. A experiência que Marta teve em escolas diversas e multiculturais, tanto em Londres como em Portugal, desenvolveram e reforçaram o seu conhecimento das melhores práticas num contexto multilingue e da aquisição de uma segunda língua.
Traz consigo uma grande experiência tanto no ensino como na gestão: era a diretora de departamento do inglês e das ciências da Wyvil Primary, vice-diretora da Judith Kerr e, desde 2016, a diretora desta escola. Sob a sua liderança, a escola obteve três anos consecutivos de bons resultados em todos os setores.
Marta também teve um papel fundamental em transformar a Judith Kerr, que era anteriormente uma instituição de ensino para adultos, numa escola primária, colaborando com as agências de financiamento e os arquitetos para assegurar a realização eficiente das obras e a manutenção de um ambiente estável de ensino para as crianças. Desta forma, trará uma experiência preciosa à remodelação de escola enquanto preparamos o edifício na parte ocidental do South Thames College para a nossa abertura em setembro de 2020.
A experiência especializada de Marta Correia significa que está pronta para dar vida ao modelo bilingue que definimos para a APSoL, orientando os professores enquanto dividem as disciplinas principais entre inglês e português, imergindo os alunos nas duas línguas e assegurando que progridem em todas as matérias académicas.
“Estou muito entusiasmada em levar a minha experiência de ensino bilingue para a APSoL. Na minha escola atual, giro dois currículos para o ensino de línguas que facilitam o progresso de todos os alunos. Acredito que a aprendizagem com base em problemas é fundamental no desenvolvimento de mentes inquisitivas- através de perguntas estimulantes as crianças aprendem a pensar de formas diferentes, a aprofundar seu conhecimento e a solucionar problemas. Estou muito empenhadas em criar um ambiente de respeito mútuo e expetativas altas para a APSoL, dando a todos os alunos a oportunidade ideal para alcançarem o melhor das suas capacidades.”
